Microchipping

Microchipping your pet is advised so that they can be identified should they become lost, stolen or escape and are taken to local vets, kennels or rescue centres. It is also a requirement for the Pet Travel Scheme (PETS).

It is straightforward procedure where a small 'chip' (transducer) is placed under the skin (similar to other injections) around the shoulders. Each 'chip' has a unique number that can be read on a scanner. The numbers are then stored on a national database that can be accessed should your pet present as a 'stray'. If you keep your contact details up to date on the data base you can be easily re-united with your pet.

This system is also used to identify ownership of a number of other animals including tortoises, raptors, parrots and other species. Chip′ placement can vary in other species, and anaesthesia may be required for some.
